NEIGHBORHOOD SUPPORT VITAL FOR SURVIVAL OF SMALL STORES Capital Times - Madison WI By Lynn Welch — Saturday, July 31, 2004 Madison regularly places well in national polls gauging quality of life. It has been ranked among the best spots in the country to live, raise kids, do business and even stay healthy. But how would the city rate if someone measured how well people here support their small neighborhood merchants?
Art Gecko II: Art Gecko opens a second, larger location at 1725 Monroe St. Marcel Colbert said he and partner Nosheen Ajmal have been looking for a spot for a second store for some time and found it on the established business district at the corner of Monroe and Grant streets. But with more space than the original shop at 507 State St., the new store will offer more than clothing, jewelry and gifts from China, India, Bali and Nepal. Colbert said to expect furniture and larger pieces geared toward home decoration. "We have some very interesting larger pieces like Tibetan furniture and large bronze carvings," Colbert said. "(On Monroe Street) we're hoping to target people looking for furnishings and doing full decorating concepts."
